New Orleans, La. --- Minnesota State junior
Denisha Cartwright was named the
USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Women's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week for the fourth time in her illustrious career, and the third time in 2022-23, after her dominating performance in the 2023 NSIC Championships last weekend.
Cartwright was named the
NSIC High Point Performer of the Meet after she collected 30 team points by herself via winning all three events she entered, setting or improving upon school, facility, and conference records in the process in everything she participated in. The 30 points she earned would have placed 10
th in the team standings all by herself. It was the third straight season Cartwright either earned outright or shared the
NSIC High Point Performer of the Meet award.
In the prelims of the 60-meter dash, she posted the fastest mark in NCAA Division II this year, and moved to fourth by herself in NCAA Division II history, with a blazing 7.23 before winning the finals of the event the next day in 7.27.
Cartwright also clocked an 8.11 in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles – which is the ninth-fastest mark in NCAA Division II history and the third-fastest of her career – prior to winning the NSIC title for the third consecutive year the next day in a time of 8.22.
Arguably Cartwright's most impressive performance came in the finals of the 200-meter dash when she unleashed an unadjusted time of 23.79 to win her third event of the competition, and for the third straight year. That raw time is now tied for 21
st in NCAA Division II history, and the track-adjusted time of 23.43 is leading the nation this year.
Top-ranked Minnesota State will now await to see which members of the team will be selected for the 2023 NCAA Division II National Championships in Virginia Beach, Va., on Friday and Saturday, March 10th and 11th, 2023. Selections will be announced at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28th.
