Madison, Wis. --- Minnesota State was blanked by No. 1 Wisconsin by a final of 6-0 on Friday night in Madison in WCHA women's hockey.
The Badgers jumped out to an early lead just 53 seconds into the game on a goal by Eden Lacey. Wisconsin never looked back as they piled on five goals in the first period on 19 shots.
Head coach
John Harrington looked to change the momentum after the first 20 minutes.
Suzette Faucher entered the game during the first intermission for the Mavericks in goal and stopped 16 of 17 shots faced.Â
In two games this season, the Middleton, Wis., native owns a 1.20 goals-against average and a .938 save percentage.
Senior
Jamie Nelson generated scoring chances for Minnesota State and recorded a team-high five shots on the evening. The forward made her presence known on both ends of the ice as she also led the Mavericks in blocks with three.
After the game, Harrington acknowledged the strengths of the number one team in the nation.Â
"We did not do a very good job getting in the way of people," Harrington stated. "They were able to beat us on the back side with some pretty good goals."
The Mavericks are back in action tomorrow for a rematch against the Badgers at 7 p.m.
