New Orleans, La. --- Makayla Jackson has been named NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Athlete of the Week for the second time in her career and season.
Jackson earned this recognition after her performance at the NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend.
Makayla Jackson earned NSIC High Point Performer for the Championship as she won three individual events and was part of a winning relay team, to score 32.5 points during the events. In her first conference title, Jackson took home the top podium spot in the long jump with a leap of 19' 11.5'' (6.08m) earning All-NSIC honors. She is ranked first in division II in the event. Jackson earned her second of three individual championships in the 100m dash setting a meet record with a time of 11.47. Jackson is currently tied for third in division II in the event. Jackson earned her third NSIC title in the 200m dash with a new school and meet record of 23.56. Jackson surpasses MSU's Brittany Henderson (2008) for the school record who held the record with a time of 23.61. She ranks seventh in division II in the event. She was also a member of the 4x100m relay team that was victorious at the championships, and they hold the top mark in the country.
Jackson and qualifying Mavericks return to action Thursday May 26 for the beginning of the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Allendale, Mich.
