BURNSVILLE, Minn. --- Minnesota State's
Trevor Turriff has been named the NSIC Wrestling Outstanding Senior of the Year for his efforts this past season.
The "NSIC Outstanding Senior of the Year Award" is presented to a NSIC Wrestling student-athlete who participates at their institution for four years and is academically superior while making a positive contribution to their team and the University. The NSIC Wrestling Outstanding Senior of the Year award was initiated in 2020-21 to honor an outstanding senior that exemplifies the attributes of the model NSIC student-athlete.
A two-time All-American from De Pere, Wis., Turriff (174 lbs.) finished his senior season with a 21-3 record, including a 3-1 record in falls and a 6-0 record in major decisions. Turriff finished the NCAA Super Region V Tournament to advance on to the NCAA Championships. He then advanced to his second championship match in as many seasons, where he defeated Andrew Sams of Indianapolis to claim the NCAA Championship.
Academically, Turriff boasts a 3.79 GPA in business. He was also named to the NSIC All-Academic Team/Team of Excellence and was named an NWCA Scholar All-American. Turriff is also a member of the Minnesota State Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). In the community he has volunteered as a youth wrestling official and camp clinician, the Kiwanis Holiday Lights and the Mankato Marathon. As a junior, Turriff received the Minnesota State Coaches Award for commitment to excellence on the mat and in the classroom, service to others and leadership.
As a team, Minnesota State finished seventh at the NCAA Championships with 39 points.
