Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's track and field team played host to the Ted Nelson Classic Saturday in Mankato, Minn., in the Myers Field House. The Mavericks were the class of the field as they ran away with it with score of 271.5 points in the meet. This was their sixth consecutive meet victory of the season.
In the 60m dash, the Mavericks took the top-three finishes with sophomore Makayla Jackson earning the victory with a time of 7.38.
The 200m dash saw the Mavericks once again take the top-three spots. This time, sophomore Denisha Cartwright took the top-spot with a time of 24.12 (converted from 24.49 for track size) which is the top mark in Division II. In the 400m dash, junior Rose Gaye was victorious with a time of 58.34.
In the 800m dash freshman Marissa Ellenbecker finished second with an effort of 2:23.28. The 1000m dash saw junior Amanda Montplaisir finish third with a time of 2:57.48.
In the mile run, the Mavericks saw junior MacKenzie Gaherty finish second with a 5:12.71. Then, in the 5000m run, freshman Ashlin Young took home a podium finish in third with a time of 19:25.32.
The high jump saw the Mavericks claim the top-two spots in the event. Senior Taylor Elliott won with a distance of 1.65m (5' 5''). In the pole vault, Paige Hickson finished second with a height of 3.56m (11' 8''). Victory was taken once again by Makayla Jackson but, this time in the long jump. She was victorious with a jump of 6.05m (19' 10.25'').
Katie Taylor took home the top-spot on the podium once again in the shot put, eclipsing here previous NCAA Provisional mark with a throw of 14.99m (49' 2.25''). With that performance she is ranked seventh in the country. Senior Kaylee Jensen set a NCAA Provisional mark of 19.29m (63' 3.5) and finished second with that performance.
The Mavericks return to action on Saturday, Feb. 12 as they host the NSIC & Friends Indoor Challenge in Mankato, Minn., in Myers Field House.
