Mavericks Defeat Huskies for Third Win of Season

ST. CLOUD, Minn. —- Minnesota State kept things rolling Tuesday evening on the road as it bested St. Cloud State 86-68 in a nonconference game.

With the win, MSU improves to 3-0 on the season. With the loss, SCSU drops to 1-2.

The first half saw the Mavericks control the pace early on as they built a 14-7 lead in the first seven minutes. Seniors Trevor Moore and Kelby Kramer each tallied six points during the opening stretch. SCSU was able to go on a 12-5 run to tie the score at 19-19 at the midpoint of the half.

The lead would change hands four times in the final 10 minutes of the opening stanza. The Mavericks led by five at 34-29 with 3:10 left in the half but a 10-4 run by SCSU put the Huskies up 39-38 with :26 to go in the half. A layup from sophomore Harrison Braudis would put the Mavericks up 40-39 as both teams went into the locker room.

Moore led the Mavericks in the first half with 12 points, while Kramer and sophomore Brady Williams each notched eight points. As a team, MSU shot 43.3% from the field in the first half.

SCSU's Tommy Chatman led all scorers in the first half with 15 points. As a team, SCSU shot 45.5% from the field in the first half.

The Mavericks maintained their lead in early going of the second half. A jumper from sophomore Tyrell Stuttley gave MSU a nine-point lead at 59-50 with 13:41 to go. The Huskies would cut into the Maverick lead as MSU led 63-58 with 10 minutes remaining.

Minnesota State would finish the final 10 minutes of the game outscoring the Huskies 23-10, inlcuding the final 10 points of the game, to secure the 86-68 win.

Moore led all scorers with 22 points as he connected on 4-of-8 shots from downtown. Sophomore Kyreese Willingham notched his first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, to go along with three assists and three steals. Williams added 13 points and seven rebounds, while Braudis tallied 10 points.

As a team, MSU shot 49.2% from the field while holding a 43-33 advantage in rebounds. The Mavericks also connected on 20-of-27 (.741) shots from the free throw line.

Chatman and Tony Dahl led the Huskies with 19 points each, while Ryan Bagley tallied eight rebounds and seven assists. As a team, SCSU shot 39,7% from the field.

Minnesota State continues its season on Friday as it heads west to take on Sonoma State this Friday in Rohnert Park, Calif. Tip-off is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. (CST).
