Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State was led by two freshmen, Caleb Meunier and Kole Marko, this weekend at the Luther Open hosted by Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. The Luther Open hosted two brackets this weekend, the Elite Bracket and the Silver Bracket, both wrestlers competed in the Silver Bracket.
 
The Wisconsin natives were both paired with opponents from Augsburg University in Minneapolis, Minn. Meunier, at 149, went 5-0 on Saturday and secured his first-place win over Cole Becker by a 9-3 decision. Marko, at 165, went 4-0 and had a close match against Cooper Willis, winning by a 5-4 decision in the championship round.
 
Six more Mavericks placed at the open tournament throughout the two brackets: Drake Hayward, second at 157; Mike Smith, fourth at 174; Shane Gibson, fifth at 184; Brock Luthens, sixth place at 141; Dylan Butts, sixth at 197; Gavin Christoffersen, tying for eighth at 184.
 
Minnesota State is back in action on Saturday, December 3rd at the Jim Koch Open in Kenosha, Wis.
