Due Up: Minnesota State is ready for a home-and-home showdown with the Gophers on Friday October 14th and Saturday October 15th. #2/2 Minnesota finished with a league leading 68 pts and 29-9-1 2021 overall record on its 2021 campaign (21-6-1 WCHA). Face-offs are scheduled for 3:00 pm in Mankato on Friday and 2:00 p.m. in Minneapolis on Saturday.


Last Time Out: MSU hung close to #4/5 Minn. Duluth for most of the weekend as they limited the bulldogs to four goals in two games courtesy of fantastic goaltending from Alex Berg and Lauren Barbro. The duo faced 82 shots while only giving up four goals on the weekend.  

The Mavericks only goal was scored on the PK as Claire Butorac outhustled the UMD defenders and made a fantastic pass of Kenedy Bobyck to snatch the early lead in game one. Shelbi Guttormson helped keep the UMD scoring to a minimum by making several defensive plays and finishing the weekend with six blocks.  

Taking on #2/2 Minnesota: In 105 all-time matchups between the Mavericks and Gophers, MSU is 4-98-3. In the most recent matchup on January 15th, MSU won in OT giving the Mavericks their first victory against Minnesota in 15 years. The Mavericks got an early lead on the Gophers as Minnesota State jumped out to a 3-1 lead heading into the first intermission courtesy of Charlotte Akervik and Kennedy Bobyck. At 3:49 of the overtime period, Kelsey King ripped a shot by the Minnesota goaltender sending the Mavericks home with a win against the Gophers.

MINN owned a 29-9-1 overall record last season with a 21-6-1 mark in league games. The Gophers held the top spot in the WCHA standings with a .810 win percentage. MSU owned a .381 winning percentage in league games while checking in at fifth in the standings.
