MANKATO, Minn. -- Freshman Goaltender Jaya Schippel has been named the WCHA Goaltender of the Week for her outstanding performance this past week across two starts. This is the first WCHA weekly honor of her career, and she is the second Maverick to earn WCHA weekly honors this season (Lucie Tenenbaum).

The Edmonton, Alberta native was excellent across her two starts this weekend. Last Monday she started her second career game and saved 40 of 41 shots, making multiple game saving stops, highlighted by her 19 save second period that kept the Mavericks in the game. She played 63+ minutes during the overtime game and stood tall to help Minnesota State upset then-No. 15 Boston College 2-1. It was the first win of her collegiate career.

This past Saturday she got the start in the second game of the St. Thomas series. After allowing a goal in the opening 10 minutes of the game, she would stop every other shot that came her way. Overall she stopped 25 of 26 shots and made some big saves down the stretch as the Mavericks won their first WCHA game of the season 2-1.

Overall on the weekend she was 2-0-0 while stopping 65 of 67 shots. She posted a .970 save percentage and had a .97 goals against average over 123:45 minutes of action.

Schippel and the Mavericks are idle this weekend, but will be in action on Nov. 13 and 14 as they hit the road to take on Bemidji State at the Sanford Center. Puck drop is set for 3 p.m. on the 13th, and 2 p.m. on the 14th.
