MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State men's basketball team returns home for a pair of games against NSIC north division foes MSU Moorhead and Northern State. The Mavericks will square off with the Dragons on Friday at 7:30 p.m., and the Wolves on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
Minnesota State History: The 2021-22 season marks the 100th campaign as a varsity sport for Minnesota State men's basketball. The Mavericks are 1,391-929 (.599) in 2,320 games since the program's inception in the 1920-21 season. MSU capped its 33rd and final season as a member of the NCC in 2008 and owned a 283-267 (.515) record in 550 league games played. In the NSIC, MSU owns a 194-90 (.683) record to go with four regular-season championships and two tournament championships.
Against the Dragons: Friday's game between Minnesota State and MSU Moorhead will be their 100th all-time meeting with the Mavericks leading the series 65-34. The Dragons have won their last two meetings against the Mavericks, including a 73-61 overtime win in the NSIC Tournament last season.
Sophomore
Malik Willingham netted a team-best 16 points, while junior
Kelby Kramer notched a double-double with 13 points and 19 rebounds.
Gavin Baumgartner and Lorenzo McGhee each scored 21 points for the Dragons. McGhee also hauled in eight rebounds.

Matt Margenthaler owns a 14-7 record against MSU Moorhead, including a 9-1 record at Taylor Center.
Against the Wolves: Saturday's game between Minnesota State and Northern State will be their 30th meeting, with MSU leading the all-time series 16-13. The Wolves have won the last six encounters against the Mavericks, including an 80-59 win in the finals of the NSIC Tournament in 2020.
Sophomore
Ryland Holt tallied 10 points, five assists and six rebounds, while junior
Kelby Kramer notched eight points and eight rebounds.

Matt Margenthaler owns a 9-10 record against Northern State, including a 4-3 record at Taylor Center.
Concerning the Mavericks: Minnesota State enters the week the owner of a 10-6 record, including a 4-6 NSIC record. This past weekend, MSU fell to Minot State (97-69) and University of Mary (65-60) on the road.
As a team, MSU is averaging 78.9 points and 37.0 rebounds per game while shooting 48.3% from the field. The Mavericks are also shooting 31.9% from three-point range and have passed out 170 assists and blocked 82 shots.

Quincy Anderson is leading the Mavericks with 16.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game this season. Junior

Concerning the Dragons: MSU Moorhead enters the weekend the owner of a 10-9 record, including a 5-5 NSIC record. Last weekend at home, the Dragons defeated Winona State 74-58, before falling to Upper Iowa 66-63.
As a unit, MSU Moorhead is averaging 79.1 points and 37.1 rebounds per game this season, while shooting 47.0% from the field and 36.8% from three point range. The Dragons have passed out 244 assists and have tallied 125 steals.
Gavin Baumgartner is averaging 12.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game this season, while Lorenzo McGhee has posted 11.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. Bryce Irsfeld has tallied 10.2 points per game also.
MSU Moorhead is coached by Chad Walthall who is in his 12th season as head coach of the Dragons. He owns a 231-17 record at MSU Moorhead and a 347-186 career record.
Concerning the Wolves: Northern State enters the weekend the owner of a 13-9 record, including a 7-7 NSIC record. Last weekend at home, the Wolves defeated Upper Iowa 90-81, before dropping an 83-74 decision to Winona State.
As a team, NSU is averaging 74.1 points and 33.6 rebounds per game this season, while shooting 44.9% from the field and 34.4% from the behind three point line. The Wolves have also tallied 310 assists and have recorded 144 steals.
Sam Masten has tallied 15.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per game this season, while Jordan Belka has tallied 14.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Jacksen Moni has notched 14.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per game also.
NSU is coached is coached by Saul Phillips, who is in his third season with the Wolves. He owns a 58-17 record at Northern State and a 273-178 career record.
