Allendale, Mich. --- On day one of the NCAA DII Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, long jumper Makayla Jackson earned All-American honors while Denisha Cartwright and Ja'Cey Simmons qualified for the finals in the 100m dash and the 4x100m relay team of Cartwright, Jackson, Simmons and Grace Hartman advanced to the finals

Makayla Jackson, a freshman from Milwaukee, Wis., finished 12^th in the long jump with a top leap of 5.74m (18'10"). With her 12^th place finish, Jackson earns second team All-American honors becoming the first member of the Minnesota State women's outdoor track and field program to become an All-American in the long jump. She is also a part of the 4x100m relay team that advanced to the finals after finishing second in the prelims.

Denisha Cartwright, a freshman from Nassau, Bahamas, finished ninth in the preliminary run of the 100m dash with a time of 11.799, to advance to the finals which are scheduled for Saturday at 5:25 p.m. She is also a part of the 4x100m relay team that advanced to the finals after finishing second in the prelims.

Ja'Cey Simmons, a freshman from Milwaukee, Wis., finished seventh in the preliminary run of the 100m dash with a time of 11.791, to advance to the finals which are scheduled for Saturday at 5:25 p.m. She is also a part of the 4x100m relay team that advanced to the finals after finishing second in the prelims.

Grace Hartman, a junior from Rudolph, Wis., is the fourth member of the 4x100 relay team that finished second overall in the preliminary round with a time of 45.88, to advance to the finals which are scheduled of Saturday at 4:05 p.m.

The National Championships continue tomorrow with Mavericks competing in several events. Katie Taylor will start the day competing in the discus throw which is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m. At 4:20 p.m., both Simmons and Cartwright will compete in the preliminary round of the 200m dash. Cartwright will wrap the day for Minnesota State when she competes in the 100m hurdles which are scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
