MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's basketball team will return home for a pair of games against the Upper Iowa Peacocks in the second to last weekend of the regular season. Friday, Feb. 12th, the teams will tip-off at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday's game will begin at 3:00 p.m.
Mavericks at a Glance: Last weekend the Mavericks traveled to Winona, Minn., and split a pair of games including a wire-to-wire victory Friday and loss in overtime. With the results, Minnesota State moved to 6-5 (5-4 NSIC) as the team approaches the final stretch of the season.
Stat Pack: As a team, Minnesota State is averaging 75.7 points per game in comparison to its opponents' 74.4. Additionally, the Mavericks average 43.4 rebounds per
game and dish out 14.0 assists per game while stealing the ball 13.0 times per game.
Impact Mavericks: Senior wing Tayla Stuttley is the leading scorer for Minnesota State averaging 13.7 points per game to go along with 5.6 boards per game. Senior forward Rachel Shumski is the second leading scorer for the Mavericks averaging 13.6 points per game while adding a team high 6.6 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Joey Batt is also averaging 13.5 points per game and 3.0 steals per game.
NSIC Honors: Sophomore guard Joey Batt was named NSIC South Division player of the week after the Mavericks split a pair of games against the Winona State Warriors. In two games, the New Ulm, Minn. native averaged 19.5 points per game along with 6.5 steals per game and 4.0 assists per game while shooting 53.0% from the field.
About Upper Iowa: Last weekend, Upper Iowa dropped a pair of games against the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears. The Peacocks are led by second year head coach Nate Oakland.Â
Upper Iowa's top offensive threat is freshman guard Lydia Haack who is averaging 15.8 points per game while also averaging 3.4 assists per game. Brooke Evenson (9.3 ppg) is the second leading scorer for the Peacocks and the leading rebounder averaging 6.2 boards per contest.
As a team, Upper Iowa averages 56.3 points per game compared to their opponents 76.7 points per game. The Peacocks average 34.5 rebounds per game and average 3.2 blocks per contest.
For the teams, these games will mark the 27th and 28th all-time meeting with the Mavericks and Peacocks. Last season, Minnesota State defeated Upper Iowa in both games between the two teams.
