Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State University Maverick women's track and field program picked up a dual win in the Ted Nelson Dual by a score of 86-46 over NCAA division one University of Northern Iowa Saturday afternoon.
In the 60m dash,
Ja'Cey Simmons finished first and recorded the sixth best time in the nation with a 7.59 run while
Denisha Cartwright finished second with a time of 7.61 which currently ranks 11
th in DII.
Cartwright then finished first in the 200m dash with a time of 24.78 which translated for track size comes in at 24.40 which is the second-best mark in the nation.
Simmons finished third in the 200m dash with a time of 24.85 which is also a provisional qualifying time although it doesn't improve on her time of 24.41.
In the 400m run
Mackenzie Woodard finished first with a time of 56.84 which adjusted for track size comes down to 56.10 which is a provisional qualifier and ranks third in the nation.
MacKenzie Keune finished third in the 400m run with an adjusted time of 56.52 which is the fourth best mark in DII.
Autumn Anderson finished first in the 600m run with a time of 1:37.20. In the one mile run Amanda Mont finished first with a time of 5:08.63.
Cartwright finished her phenomenal day with a first-place finish in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.62 which currently ranks first in the nation.
Christine Dennison finished second in the pole vault with a top clear of 3.66m (12'0") which is a provisional qualifying mark although it ranks outside of the top 25 jumps in the nation.
Makayla Jackson finished first in the long jump with a top leap of 5.77m (18'11.25") which is currently the tenth best in the nation and a provisional qualifier.
In the triple jump,
Samiya Abu-Youm finished first with a top leap of 11.68m (38'4") which is the 15
th best mark in DII.
In the shot put,
Katie Taylor finished first posting a top throw of 14.75m (48'4.75") which is currently the seventh best in the nation and a provisional qualifier and
Brea Perron finished second with a throw of 14.08m (46'2.5") which is also a provisional qualifier but does not improve on her best throw this year.
In the weight throw the Mavericks took the top three spots with
Kaylee Jensen taking first with a throw of 18.64m (61'2") which is the fifth best mark in the nation while
Perron (18.40m (60'4.5")) and Taylor (17.49 (57'4.75")) third and second respectively.
The Mavericks return to action next Friday as they host the University of Sioux Falls and Concordia-St. Paul in the Minnesota State Triangular. Events are scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. in Myers Field House.
