2/1/2021 1:19:00 PM

Mankato, Minn. --- A trio of players from sixth-rated Minnesota State Mavericks have been nominated for this year's Hobey Baker Award.

Dryden McKay, a junior goaltender, along with sophomore forwards Cade Borchardt and Nathan Smith are listed on the first phase of this year's balloting for the Hobey Baker Award.

McKay, Borchardt and Smith are three of 50 college hockey players to appear on this year's ballot.

Fan voting (phase one) runs now until Sunday, March 7 at midnight. College hockey fans can cast their vote by going to the voting website http://www.hobeybaker.com.

Phase two of fan balloting will come from the list of Top Ten Hobey Baker finalists beginning March 18 and closing March 28. The fans' vote accounts for a full one percent of the total ballot in each phase in selecting this year's award recipient. The Hobey Hat Trick of three finalists is announced April 1 and the winner is unveiled April 9.

McKay, the reigning Western Collegiate Hockey Association Goaltender of the Year, a top-ten finalist for the Hobey Baker Award and the Richter Award last year, stands 9-1-0 with a .954 save percentage and 0.90 goals against average on the season.  The Downers Grove, Ill., native leads the country in goals against average, save percentage and shutouts with six. McKay has moved into a tie for third on the NCAA's all-time list with 20 career shutouts and his streak of not allowing a goal that started on Dec. 19 and ended on Jan. 16 this season (a span of five games and  218:17 minutes) places 19th on the NCAA all-time consecutive shutout minutes list.

Borchardt leads Minnesota State in scoring with six goals and nine assists for 15 points in 12 games. His 1.25 points per game mark stands tied for 11th in the nation and his nine power play points rank eight in the country.

Smith ranks third on the team with 13 points on two goals and 11 assists. His 0.92 assists per game lead the WCHA.

Minnesota State heads into a WCHA home series with eighth-rated Bowling Green this weekend owning a 9-2-0 mark.
