Box Score MANKATO, Minn. --- #17 Minnesota State kept things rolling Saturday afternoon at Blakeslee Stadium as it picked up its third straight victory as it defeated Concordia-St. Paul 58-10.
With the win, the Mavericks improve to 4-1 on the season, while the Golden Bears fall to 1-4.
In total, the Mavericks recorded 444 yards of total offense against the Golden Bears, including 340 rushing yards. CSP was able to record 167 yards of offense, including 121 rushing yards.
The first six scores of the game belonged to the Mavericks as they took a 38-0 lead into halftime. The first quarter saw junior
Luke Williams record a 36-yard field goal, before freshman
Charles Coleman posted a 41-yard touchdown run. Senior
Ty'Shonan Brooks returned a 53-yard punt for a touchdown also.
The second quarter saw the Mavericks tally three more touchdowns. Senior
Parker Gloudemans caught a 42-yard touchdown pass from freshman
Hayden Ekern, before senior JD Ekowa recorded a pair of rushing touchdowns from 15 and three yards out.
CSP got the first score of the third quarter as it took an interception all the way the MSU one yard line. The Golden Bears could not get into the end zone however and had to settle for a 25-yard field goal from Sam Henson.
The Mavericks would answer with three more touchdowns in the third quarter to go up 58-3. Junior
Jalen Sample caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from Ekern, before Coleman recorded his second rushing touchdown of the day, this time from eight yards out. Freshman
Mitch Randall added a 32-yard rushing touchdown also.
CSP recorded the last score of the game to bring the final score to 58-10. Branden Marenco raced into the end zone from 36 yards out with just over three minutes to play in the game.
Coleman and Ekowa both recorded two touchdown carries, while Coleman led the Mavericks with 88 rushing yards. Ekern led the Maverick passing attack with 88 passing yards and two touchdowns.
Sample led the MSU receiving corps with 46 receiving yards and a touchdown, while Gloudemans tallied 42 receiving yards and a touchdown.
The Maverick defense tallied 11.0 tackles for a loss and 3.0 sacks. Senior
Amiri Finner led the team with six tackles, while junior
Bedale Naba notched two tackles for a loss and two sacks.
Minnesota State wraps its two-game homestand on Saturday, October 9, as it hosts the Wayne State Wildcats. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
