Michaelis, McKay and Mackey Named All-Americans

  Mankato, Minn. --- A trio of Minnesota State Mavericks have been named All-Americans for their performances during the 2019-20 season.

Senior center Marc Michaelis and sophomore goaltender Dryden McKay have both been named 2019-20 AHCA/CCM West First Team All-America. Junior defenseman Connor Mackey has been named 2019-20 AHCA/CCM West Second Team All-America.

This year's Western Collegiate Hockey Association Player of the Year and a top-ten finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, Michaelis led Minnesota State in scoring on the season with 20-24--44 and his point total tied for third in the country. Michaelis, who established a school record for career shorthanded goals with ten, led the WCHA in goals per game, points per game, power play points, shorthanded goals and game-winning goals (five) this year. His shorthanded-goal total on the season also tied for the national lead. The two-year team captain was a four-time All-WCHA First Team selection and this year's WCHA Forward of the Year. The Mannheim, Germany, native signed a free agent contract with the National Hockey League's Vancouver Canucks following the end of the season.

McKay, a Hobey Baker Top-10 Finalist and a finalist for the Mike Richter Award, was the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's Goaltender of the Year in 2019-20 after winning the WCHA goaltending championship with a league-record 1.17 goals against average in WCHA play. The Downers Grove, Ill., native also earned first team All-WCHA honors and was named WCHA Goaltender of the Week eight time while leading the country in wins (30), goals against average (1.31), save percentage (.942) and shutouts (10). His shutout total ties for second all-time in the NCAA record books. He was a three-time WCHA Goaltender of the Month pick and was named National Goaltender of the Month for November by the Hockey Commissioners Association.

Mackey, who signed with the Calgary Flames once the season ended, had seven goals and 17 assists for 24 points in standing as Minnesota State's top-scoring defenseman in 2019-20. Named WCHA Defenseman of the Week twice this year, Mackey led the Mavericks and ranked sixth in the nation with a +23 rating in 2019-20.  Named All-WCHA First Team this year after earning All-WCHA Third Team honors as a sophomore in 2018-19, Mackey was named to the WCHA All-Rookie Team as a freshman in 2017-18.  The 6-2, 200-lb., left hand-shooting blue liner from Tower Lakes, Ill., posted 18-43--61 with a +47 rating and 92 blocked shots in 118 games in his three seasons with the Mavericks.

Michaelis, McKay and Mackey become the eighth, ninth and tenth players from Minnesota State to be named a NCAA Division I men's hockey All-American, joining forwards Grant Stevenson (2002-03 West Second Team), Shane Joseph (2002-03 West Second Team), David Backes (2005-06 West Second Team), Matt Leitner (2014-15 West First Team) and C.J. Suess (2017-18 West First Team), along with defensemen Zach Palmquist (2014-15 West Second Team) and Daniel Brickley (2016-17 West Second Team).
