McCarville Hits Three Home-runs as Mavericks Extend Win Streak to Four Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Clermont, Fla. --- Minnesota State extended its win streak to four games on day two of the Spring Games played in Clermont, Fla., Sunday afternoon.  In game one the MSU defeated Edinboro University 10-2 (5), followed by a 10-3 win over the Ferris State Bulldogs. 

With the results, the Mavericks improve to 11-3 on the season while the Fighting Scots fall to 0-1 and the Bulldogs fall to 5-7.

Game 1

Katie Bracken (5-2) started the game for the Mavericks and earned the win in five innings of work allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out five batters.  Macy Sral (0-1) started for the Fighting Scots and took the loss pitching four innings and allowing 10 runs, seven of them earned.

The Mavericks began the scoring often and early and in the bottom of the first inning, Carly Esselman led off with a double and stole third base before an overthrow on the steal allowed her to get home.  Hailey Forshee singled in a runner from third later in the inning before scoring herself on a fielding error, giving MSU a 3-0 lead after one inning.

After a scoreless second inning, Hannah McCarville drilled a three-run homer and Courtney Potter doubled in a runner, increasing the lead to 7-0.  In the bottom of the fourth, the Mavericks concluded their scoring when Forshee doubled in another run before McCarville hit her second homer of the game, this time a two-run shot.  After concluding the fifth inning, with an eight-run lead, the game ended by run rule. 

McCarville finished the game 2-3 from the plate with two homers and five RBI, while Forshee finished 2-3 with two RBI.  Esselman continued her hot streak going 2-3 from the plate.

Game 2

Mackenzie Ward (7-2) started the game for Minnesota State and pitched five innings striking out nine batters and allowing one hit while earning the win.  McKayla Armbrusterr pitched two innings of relief allowing three runs on four hits.  Kaitlyn Nugent (0-5) started for the Bulldogs and took the loss allowing four runs on six hits. 

The game was scoreless going into the fourth inning when McCarville continued to rake the ball, hitting a two-run homer before the Mavericks manufactured another pair of runs to take a 4-0 lead.  In the top of the fifth inning, Torey Richards hit a double which scored Forshee to extend the lead to 5-0.

MSU added five more runs in the top of the sixth, all of them with two outs, and pushed its lead to 10-0.  Ferris State managed to get on the board in the bottom of the sixth, bringing three runs across
the plate to keep the game from ending via run rule, but they went scoreless in the seventh resulting in the 10-3 win for the Mavericks.

McCarville finished the game 2-4 from the plate with three RBI and her third homer of the day while Forshee finished 3-5.  Emma Schifferle went 2-3 from the plate scoring two runs. 

Minnesota State will return to action tomorrow afternoon when it will face off with the Wayne State Warriors with first pitch scheduled at 1:45, before taking on the Concord Mountain Cats at 4:00 p.m.
