BURNSVILLE, Minn. --- Minnesota State freshman
Makayla Jackson has been named the NSIC Women's Indoor Track and Field Newcomer of the Year for her efforts at the NSIC Championships last weekend.
A native of Milwaukee, Wis., Jackson won the 60m dash with an NSIC record of 7.41. Her time of 7.41 was an automatic qualifying time and the second fastest in Division II this season.
Jackson also won the long jump event at the NSIC Championships with a provisional qualifying and NSIC record jump of 19-08.75. Her jump ranks sixth in Division II. She also finished second in the 200m dash with a time of 24.62 at the NSIC Championships. She will compete in both the long jump and the 200m dash events at the NCAA Championships as well.
The two-day NCAA Indoor Championships will begin on Friday, March 13, in Birmingham, Ala.
