MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State softball team will continue its 2020 season with the annual trip to Clermont, Fla., for the Spring Games where the team will play a total of 10 games over a six day stretch. Action begins Saturday when the Mavericks take on the Indianapolis Greyhounds with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and will wrap up Thursday, Mar. 12, with a game against the Bloomfield Bears with first pitch at 11:30 a.m.
Mavericks at a Glance: Minnesota State (7-3, 0-0 NSIC) went 3-2 two weekends ago in the Emporia State Softball Classic.
Impact Mavericks: Senior outfielder
Carly Esselman leads the Mavericks in batting average with a .459 average and is tied for the team lead with two homeruns while collecting seven RBI.
Hailey Forshee leads the team in RBI with nine while hitting .371 from the plate.
Junior pitcher
Mackenzie Ward leads the Mavericks with three wins and currently holds a 1.16 ERA while holding opposing batters to a .171 average.
Scouting Indianapolis: Indianapolis is located in Indianapolis, Ind., and is a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC). The Greyhounds are currently 8-3 on the season and are led by 16th year head coach Melissa Frost.
Indianapolis is led on offense by Lucy Garret who is currently batting .472 with 10 RBI. In the circle, Hallie Waters leads the way with a 5-1 record and a 1.39 ERA.
Saturday's game will be the seventh and between these two programs, the most recent of which was an 1-0 loss for the Mavericks in 2014.
Scouting Northwood: Northwood University is located in Midland, Mich., and is a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Timberwolves are currently 5-2 on the season and are led by second year head coach Gregg Suave.
Northwood is led on offense by Haley Frank who has recorded five RBI while batting .400. In the circle, the Timberwolves rely on Shayna Frank who has a 3-1 record and a 1.06 ERA.
Saturday's game will be the eighth between these two programs, the most recent of which was a 7-6 win for the Mavericks during the 2017 season.
