Minneapolis, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's hockey team fell in the final regular season game to the #3 Minnesota Gophers 3-0 Saturday at Ridder Arena.
The Mavericks trailed the Gophers after the first 20 minutes of action as junior winger
Grace Zumwinkle scored at the 11:18 mark. Zumwinkle finished a two-on-one opportunity with junior blueliner
Emily Brown right in front of the net.
The deficit grew early in the second period as the Gophers scored at the 2:45 mark in the middle frame. Senior winger
Sarah Potomak got freshman netminder
Calla Frank to slide to her right and slid the puck just behind her for the goal. Frank amassed 23 saves through the first two periods.
Minnesota scored the final goal of the game at the 6:50 mark in the third period. Sophomore winger
Amy Potomak scored the goal and made the final score 3-0 after the Gophers scored a goal in each period.
Freshman
Calla Frank (6-6-3) made 37 saves in the loss and made double digit saves in every period.
The Mavericks were outshot by the Gophers by a 40-24 margin. Minnesota State went zero-for-three on the power play and Minnesota did not convert on the three chances with the man advantage.
Now standing with a 11-18-6 (4-16-4-3 WCHA) record, the Mavericks will now turn their attention to the WCHA playoffs. MSU will head out to Columbus, Ohio to take on #5 Ohio State in the WCHA Quarterfinals on Feb. 28-March 1.
