Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State University volleyball team wrapped up their 2019 preseason Tuesday with an exhibition tilt against Gustavus Adolphus. The Mavericks won the match 3-1 (25-22, 19-25, 25-16, 25-16).

The first set was back and forth from the beginning. The Mavericks took their biggest lead, 18-15, and appeared to have the momentum shifting in their favor before the Golden Gusties evened the set at 19-19. The two sides traded points until the Mavericks prevailed and took the set 25-22.

The second set went to Gustavus Adolphus in a 25-19 score. The Golden Gusties possessed an early 10-5 advantage to get the set started. After extending the lead to 17-10 with help from several small runs, the Golden Gusties took the second set to even the match at 1-1.

The Mavericks got out to a 17-13 lead in the third set. In the end, the Mavericks held on to take the match lead, 2-1 with a 25-16 victory in set three.

The Mavericks clinched the match with a fourth-set victory, 25-16. The Mavericks then rallied behind a 20-12 lead to cruise to the victory in Tuesday's final set against the Golden Gusties.

The Maverick offense was led by Anissa Janzig and Joie Veldman who each notched 12 kills. Micayla Porter recorded 19 assists to lead the team.

The Minnesota State University volleyball team has wrapped up their preseason schedule and will prepare to begin their regular season schedule at the Barry University Classic in Miami, Fla. They will embark on the 2019 regular season schedule Sept. 6 against American International.
