Mankato, Minn. ---   Freshman netminder Dryden McKay was perfect in helping lead #2/3 Minnesota State to a 2-0 win over #20 Lake Superior State in game two of a best-of-three Western Collegiate Hockey Association second-round series Saturday at Verizon Center in downtown Mankato.

The victory clinched the best-of-three series for the Mavericks, who downed the visiting Lakers Friday 2-1.
 
With the win, Minnesota State ups its record to 31-7-2 on the season, with the 31 wins establishing a school season record for victories. The old mark of 30 wins was set by the 1979-80 team, which won the NCAA DII national championship.

For the second straight game, two goals scored in the first period was enough to give the Mavericks the win.

After a review by the officials, Lake Superior State was called for a five-minute for spearing at the 9:32 mark in the first period and Minnesota State went to work, scoring twice with the man advantage. At the 12:14 mark, junior captain Marc Michaelis fed freshman winger Julian Napravnik from behind the net to the top of the crease as Napravnik chipped in his eighth goal of the season past senior netminder Nick Kossoff.  Then, less than a minute later, the Mavericks took the 2-0 lead after sophomore forward Reggie Lutz lit the lamp for the seventh time this season. Lutz controlled a rebound on the right side of the net, shot from a bad angle and went top shelf over Kossoff at 13:27.

The two teams then battled through two scoreless periods, with the Lakers outshooting the Mavericks 11-6 in the second frame and both teams putting ten shots on goal each in the final 20 minutes.
 
Freshman netminder Dryden McKay completed his fourth shutout of the season by stopping all 31 shots on net and improves to 23-6-2 on the season with tonight's victory.  Notably, the Mavericks have now gone 15 consecutive games allowing two or fewer goals.
 
The Mavericks went two-for-five on the power play, while the Lakers finished with a zero-for-three ledger with the man advantage tonight and finished the weekend with an zero-for-eight tally on the power play.
 
The Mavericks move to 20-1-0 at home on the season, continuing to improve on the most home wins in a season in program history.
 
Minnesota State will play for its third WCHA Tournament Championship by facing Bowling Green at Verizon Center on Saturday, March 23 at 7:07 p.m.
