Houghton, Mich. --- #6 Minnesota State battled back to overcome a two-goal deficit in downing Michigan Tech 3-2 in overtime in Western Collegiate Hockey Association action Saturday at MacInnes Student Ice Arena in Houghton, Mich.
Combined with last night's shootout win, Minnesota State was awarded the MacInnes Cup as Winter Carnival Champions, which is based on total goals (Minnesota State outscored Michigan Tech 5-3 on the weekend).
Following a scoreless first period in which Tech outshot the Mavericks by a 10-7 margin, the Huskies took a 2-1 lead in the second period with a pair of power play goals doing the damage.

Dryden McKay at 8:32 for the first tally of the game. Then, at 17:58,
Justin Misiak got his stick on the puck off a shot by
Seamus Donohue to make it a two-goal lead. However, at 19:08, the Mavericks cut the deficit in half with a power play goal of their own. Junior forward
Marc Michaelis redirected
Parker Tuomie's shot from the point for his 14
th goal of the year.
Another power play goal by Michaelis, which came at 15:17 of the final period, sent the game into overtime.
Sophomore defenseman
Connor Mackey jumped into the play and took a pass from
Charlie Gerard before sliding the puck under the pads of
Matt Jurusik at 1:45 of the overtime period to seal the win. The goal is the fifth of the year for Mackey and his first career game-winning tally.
Michaelis, who had a hand in all three goals tonight, was named MVP of the Winter Carnival.
Freshman
Dryden McKay, who started for the 14th straight time for the Mavericks, was credited with 33 saves and now stands 18-5-1 for the season. The Mavericks, who were two-for-three in power play chances, were outshot by the Huskies, 35-27 in the contest.
The Mavericks, who have now gone 10-1-2 in their last 13 games, own a 24-6-2 overall record and stand atop the WCHA with a 19-4-1-1 in league contests for the year.
Minnesota State is idle next weekend before heading north for two games at the University of Alaska Feb. 22-23.
