Houghton, Mich. --- Sophomore goaltender
Dryden McKay was perfect and three different players scored goals as #3 Minnesota State skated to a 3-0 win at Michigan Tech Friday.
The two teams battled through a scoreless opening 20 minutes, before the visiting Mavericks took control of the game in the second period, outshooting the Huskies 19-8 and scoring twice. Junior forward
Reggie Lutz got his fourth goal of the year at 6:08 on a play after he threw the puck out from behind the goal line where it bounced of the right skate of a prone
Robbie Beydoun into the net. Then, at 12:16, sophomore winger
Julian Napravnik wired a shot from the left dot past Beydoun with Minnesota State on a power play to make it a 2-0 lead. The goal is the third of the year for Napravnik.
Junior forward
Jared Spooner lit the lamp following a turnover behind the Tech net to tally an unassisted wraparound attempt for his second goal of the year at 1:01 of the third and the Mavericks held on the rest of the way in taking the 3-0 road win.
Sophomore netminder
Dryden McKay, who finished with 31 stops in gaining his second shutout of the season and the sixth of his career, upped his record for the season to 6-1-1.
Now 7-1-1 overall on the year and 4-1-0 in WCHA contests, the Mavericks put 31 shots on net and went one-for-two in power play situations. Minnesota State held the Huskies to a zero-for-five performance with the man advantage.
Minnesota State and Michigan Tech (3-5-0, 1-4-0 WCHA) conclude the two-game WCHA series Saturday night at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena.
