OWATONNA, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team went 1-1 in dual action Saturday as it fell to Bethel University 8-1, before besting Northwestern College 7-2. MSU now owns a 1-2 dual record.
The Mavericks began the day with an 8-1 loss to Bethel University.
The Royals won all three of the doubles matches to begin the dual. Junior
Valerie Bresnahan and freshman
Camila Ojeda put forth the best effort in the No. 3 doubles match but they fell to Samantha Hindt and Mattie Lubben by the score of 8-6.
Minnesota State's lone point in the dual came courtesy of freshman
Tyanna Washa who defeated Meghan Schuler 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 6 singles match. Junior
Erin Streeter fell to Maggie Riermann in the No. 1 singles match by the scores of 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8). Senior
Nina Riesselman also forced a deciding third set but she lost Jill Weinzettle 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) in the No. 5 singles match.
The Mavericks finished their day with a 7-2 win over the Northwestern College Red Raiders.
MSU swept all three of the doubles matches. The team of Streeter and sophomore Monika Ryan bested Zoe Holscher and Jacque Ingram 8-2 in the No. 1 doubles match, while senior
Kylie DeWees and Risselman topped Kendra McGinnis and Kelly Shortenhaus 8-4 in the second doubles match. Bresnahan and Washa defeated Liz Foster and Abby Petrick 8-2 in the No. 3 doubles match as well.
Minnesota State finished the dual winning four of the six singles matches to complete the 7-2 win. DeWees won the No. 1 singles match against Holscher by the score of 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6), while freshman
Madeline Muotka defeated Shortenhaus 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 4 singles match. Bresnahan turned in an 8-6 win over Foster in the No. 5 singles match, while freshman
Paula Bejarano won the sixth singles match via a forfeit.
The Mavericks open NSIC competition on Friday as they take on the Augustana Vikings at 7:00 p.m.
