Mankato, Minn. ---  Minnesota State led twice, but could not hold off University of Minnesota Duluth in a women's Western Collegiate Hockey Association game played in Mankato Saturday afternoon, eventually falling to the Bulldogs 3-2.

Senior wing Sara Bustad's wrist shot from the side of the net at 5:56 bounced off the shoulder of Jessica Convery to give the host Mavericks an early 1-0 lead. The goal is the first of the year for Bustad. The Bulldogs responded two minutes later when Katerina Mrázová tipped a pass from Sydney Brodt that beat Katie Bidulka stickside. The goal, which came at the 7:51 mark is the sixth of the season for the Prague native and the two teams entered the locker room at the end of the opening period with the game knotted at 1-1.

At the 0:25 mark of the second period, Minnesota State regained the lead on a rebound shorthanded goal where Lindsey Coleman pounced on a rebound after Jordan McLaughlin's shot from the left dot was stopped by Convery. The goal is the sixth of the year for Coleman and her first career shorthanded goal. UMD battled back to tie the game at 4:31 on a laser from the point by Catherine Daoust that found its way past a screened Bidulka high on the glove side for a power play marker and after two periods of action the score stood 2-2.

Mrázová got her second of the game on a power play at 12:51 of the third when she gobbled up her own rebound before lifting the puck into the Minnesota State net.  The goal proved to be the game-winner.

UMD, which converted on two of its five power play chances, owned a 35-22 advantage in shots on goal in the goal in the game.

Bidulka, who finished with 32 saves, stands 1-15-0 on the season with today's decision.

The Mavericks (5-26-1, 3-21-0-0 WCHA) begin the postseason with a first-round WCHA play-off series at Ohio State next weekend.
