Big Second Period Lifts #5 Mavericks Past Bulldogs

The win is the eighth in a row for the Mavericks and ups their record to 24-7-0 overall, 20-5-0 WCHA on the year.

Connor Mackey beat a screened Darren Smith with a shot from the point at 1:17 of the first period to put the Mavericks up 1-0.  The goal is the fourth of the year for the freshman blueliner from Tower Heights, Ill.

Senior captain C.J. Suess roofed a shot over Smith's shoulder from a bad angle on the near side 15 seconds into the second period with his 18th of the year giving Minnesota State a 2-0 lead.  Ferris State got one back when Lucas Finner batted a bouncing puck near the net past Connor LaCouvee at 1:23, but goals by Daniel Brickley, at 2:03, and Jake Jaremko, at 6:59, opened up a three-goal cushion for the Mavericks. Jaremko scored again at 18:21, with his 12th of the season making it a 5-1 lead.  Mark Michaelis wired one for his 14th of the season with a snap shot over Smith's shoulder on the stickside at 19:21 and Minnesota State took a 6-1 lead into the locker room at the end of 40 minutes of play.
Senior winger Brad McClure closed out the scoring with his seventh of the season coming on a scramble in the Ferris State crease at 18:52 of the final period.

LaCouvee, who made his eighth consecutive start in the game and stopped 19 shots in the process, upped his record to 18-3-0 with the win.  Jaremko finished with two goals and an assist, while Brickley and McClure both had a goal and an assist.  Parker Tuomie and Reggie Lutz both chipped in with a pair of assists.
