#3 Minnesota State Edges Bemidji State, 3-2, to Extend Winning Streak to Seven Games

Mankato, Minn. ---  #3 Minnesota State got goals from three different players in extending its winning streak to seven games with a 3-2 victory at Bemidji State Friday in Bemidji
The Mavericks, who outshot the Beavers by a 27-24 margin in the contest, now stand 10-1-0 for the year with tonight's win.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in a first period that saw Minnesota State outshoot the Beavers by an 11-7 margin.

Senior winger Parker Tuomie, Minnesota State's leading scorer, walked in off the left boards and snapped a shot past Henry Johnson on the far side to give the Mavericks a 1-0 lead at 8:36 of the second period.  The Mavericks took a 2-0 lead at 12:45 when Josh French roofed a rebound past Johnson for his second tally of the season.  BSU cut into the Minnesota State lead before the end of the period on a shot from Ethan Somoza off the rush, that got behind Mathias Israelsson at 16:05.

Brad Johnson's shorthanded tally at 4:25 of the third period drew the Beavers even with the Mavericks.  The game-winning goal came when defenseman Ian Scheid took a shot from the right point that was saved by Johnson and was gobbled up by junior center Marc Michaelis, who bounced the puck off of Johnson into the net. The goal is the eighth of the year for Michaelis and sixth game-winning goal of his career.

Senior netminder Mathias Israelsson, who started for the seventh consecutive game, stopped 22 shots he faced in the win and stands 7-0-0 for the year.

With the win the Mavericks up their record on the season to 10-1-0 (5-0-0 WCHA).

The Mavericks and the Beavers conclude the two-game league series tomorrow night with a 7:07 start scheduled.

Head coach Mike Hastings commented following the game.
