SIOUX FALLS, S.D.--- Minnesota State (8-1-1, 6-0-1 NSIC) narrowly escapes Sioux Falls (4-6-1, 3-4-1 NSIC) 1-0 in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Sunday afternoon.
The first half was played to a scoreless tie by both teams. The Mavericks had their opportunities, but were unable to convert one into a goal. MSU had 13 total shots in the first half with three of them being on goal. The Maverick defense was stellar once again in the first half by not only not allowing a goal, but not allowing one shot attempt by the Cougars.

The Mavericks were able to break through in the second half when in the 70th minute, freshman
Brynn Desens scored her third goal of the season with junior
Dakota Wendell collecting the assist. All three of Desens' goals have been game winners this season. The MSU pressure and defense was dominate all game as USF was only able to get one shot off all game.

Overall, the Mavericks had 31 shots with 15 of then being on goal. MSU also held the edge in corners kicks as they had five compared to USFs three.

Alexa Rabune helped command the defense from the back end, but did not have to make any saves on the day. Her counterpart, Brayden Paul made 14 saves on 15 opportunities.

The Mavericks continue their road campaign with three matches net week. On Tuesday, MSU will travel to the twin cities to take on Concordia-St. Paul at 7:00 p.m. For the weekend, they will start with Minnesota Crookston in Crookston, Minn., at 3:00 p.m. The Mavericks will finish up their five match road stretch with No. 6 Bemidji State on Sunday at 1:00 p.m., for a battle between the top two teams in the NSIC.
