Mavericks Return Home to Host Minot State and U-Mary

MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State volleyball team will host Minot State Friday Oct. 5th at 6:00 p.m., before taking on the University of Mary Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Taylor Center.

Mavericks at a Glance: The Mavericks enter the week with an 11-6 (4-5 NSIC) overall record after sweeping MSU Moorhead on the road, before dropping a 3-1 match against #3 Northern State.

Impact Mavericks: Morgan Olson leads the Mavericks with a team best 284 kills and a .405 attacking percentage.  Mara Quam has compiled 319 digs to begin the year, and Micayla Porter leads the teams in assists with 421.

By the Numbers: As a team this season, Minnesota State has posted 13.5 kills per set in comparison to its opponents 11.8.  Additionally, the Mavericks add 13.0 assists per set and 14.1 digs per set.  

Young Talent: The freshman class has contributed 154 digs, 344 assists, 86 kills and 41 blocks this season. Freshman Lauren Lowry is second on the team with 336 assists and Dana Schindler is fourth on the team with 80 kills.

Scouting Minot State: Minot State University is located in Minot, N.D., and is a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).  The Beavers are 9-9 (3-6 NSIC) so far this season and are led by second year head coach Dana Cordova.

As a team this season, Minot State posts 12.0 kills per set while their opponents average 12.5 The Beavers also total 11.3 assists per set and 15.1 digs per set. 

Junior Shelby Spuller is the lead attacker for the Beavers with 257 kills on the season and a .189 attacking percentage.  Senior Kelsey Dewulf is the primary setter for Minto State and has 689 assists on the season.  

Scouting U-Mary: The University of Mary is located in Bismarck, N.D., and is a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).  The Marauders are 3-14 (0-9 NSIC) so far this season. U-Mary is led by first year head coach Korie Tetzlaff.  

As a team this season, the Marauders total 10.2 kills in comparison to its opponents' 12.0. Additionally, U-Mary posts 9.5 assists per set and 13.6 digs per set. 

Sophomore Morgan Schnabel is the leading attacker for the Marauders with 109 kills on the season and she is joined by sophomore Natalia Cruz with 104 kills.  Sophomore Sydney Murphy is the primary setter for U-Mary and leads the team with 422 assists.

Looking Ahead: The Mavericks will once again take to the road next week as they travel to Concordia-St. Paul Tuesday, Oct. 9th at 6:00 p.m., before facing Minnesota Crookston Friday at 6:00 p.m., and Bemidji State Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
