BEMIDJI, Minn. --- No. 22 Minnesota State (11-2-1, 9-1-1 NSIC) drops the match in double overtime to No. 5 Bemidji State (14-0-0, 11-0-0 NSIC) 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at Chet Anderson Stadium.

On an afternoon with flurries of snow, the Mavericks were able to strike first against the Beavers in the first half of action. Junior
Dakota Wendell netted her 10th goal of the season, which continues to lead the team, off the post. The goal came in the 24th minute with freshman
Kelly Friedrich and senior
Maddy Burandt tallying assists. The Beavers countered in the 39th minute with a goal of their own from Dani Nelson to even the score 1-1.

After being tied at the half, it took nearly 30 minutes before a goal was scored in the second half. The NSIC's leading scorer Rachael Norton scored in the 74th minute to give the Beavers a 2-1 lead. With the clock winding down, the Mavericks put together an attack that led to senior
Julia Zach evening the score at two from 18 yards out in the 87th minute. This was Zach's sixth goal of the season and both senior
Morgan Cottew and junior
Alesha Duccini assisted on the goal.

Minnesota State had chances in the first and second overtimes to win the match, but were unable to find the back of the net. Bemidji State won the game in the 105th minute of the second overtime with a goal from Sara Wendt.

Even in the loss, the Mavericks were able to outshoot the Beavers 27-15 (15-7 on goal).

Alexa Rabune had four saves on seven opportunities while her counterpart, Anna Fobbe, had 13 saves on 15 opportunities.

No. 22 Minnesota State returns home next weekend as it takes on Northern State on Friday, Oct. 19 at 3:00 p.m., and MSU Moorhead on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 1:00 p.m. Both games will be at The Pitch.
