MANKATO, Minn. --- #23 Minnesota State (12-2-1, 10-1-1 NSIC) scores a second half goal to defeat Northern State (7-7-1, 5-6-1 NSIC) 1-0 Friday afternoon at The Pitch.
The Mavericks dominated the Wolves in possession and in shots in the first half, even though there was a 25 mph wind going against them. The shot count was 18-0 in favor of the Mavericks with nine of them being on goal and another three hitting the crossbar. Despite having a wide shot disparity, MSU was unable to convert and score a goal and headed into the half tied 0-0 with NSU.
In the second half the wind was now in favor of the Mavericks and were able to capitalize on it in the 65th minute. Junior
Dakota Wendell took a long thrown in from senior
Morgan Cottew and off of a high bounce, Wendell was able to beat the Wolves' goalkeeper to the low, right-hand corner of the net. This was Wendell's team leading 11th goal and 28th point of the season. Cottew was credited with the assist on the goal which was her eighth of the season and also has 20 points.
The Mavericks outshot the Wolves by a total of 31-6 (14-3 on goal) and had a corner kick advantage of 16-5.

Alexa Rabune converted all three of her save opportunities while her counterpart, Jessica Otto. converted 13 of 14 opportunities.
Minnesota State will be back in action on Sunday against MSU Moorhead starting at 1:00 p.m., at The Pitch.
