Minnesota State faces Sioux Falls in a home match at 1:00 p.m., on Friday at The Pitch, before traveling to Marshall, Minn., to face Southwest Minnesota State on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Looking Back at Last Week: Minnesota State (4-1-0, 2-0-0 NSIC) began its conference schedule with two shutouts. The Mavericks defeated Minnesota Duluth 1-0 on Saturday in Duluth, Minn., and St. Cloud State 1-0 on Sunday in St. Cloud, Minn.
300 Wins: Minnesota State recorded the 300th win in program history with its 1-0 win over St. Cloud State on Sunday. The Mavericks have an all-time record of 300-116-32.
NSIC Player of the Week: Junior defender Morgan Seemuth was named NSIC Defensive Player of the Week for her role in Minnesota State's two shutouts over the weekend. Seemuth played all 184 minutes as the Mavericks limited Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State to a combined six shots on goal. She also contributed the assist on junior forward Morgan Cottew's golden goal at Minnesota Duluth on Saturday.
Game-Winning Goals: After neither team scored for the first 94:00 of play, junior forward Morgan Cottew scored the golden goal in the 95th minute to secure the Mavericks a 1-0 win at Minnesota Duluth on Saturday. On Sunday, sophomore midfielder Alesha Duccini scored the game winner in the ninth minute and the Maverick defense did the rest in a 1-0 victory at St. Cloud State.
Clean Sheets: With its two shutouts last weekend, Minnesota State has recorded four shutouts in five matches this season. The Mavericks are tied for seventh in NCAA DII in shutout percentage (.800).
Junior goalkeeper Taylor Livermore and sophomore goalkeeper Ryann Rydeen each recorded their second shutout of the season over the weekend. Livermore stopped two shots against St. Cloud State and Rydeen stopped four shots against Minnesota Duluth.
NSIC: Minnesota State is 2-0-0 in NSIC matches after garnering 1-0 shutouts over Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State over the weekend. In 2016, the Mavericks compiled a 12-2-1 record in NSIC play to finish second during the regular season. The Mavericks then went on to win the 2016 NSIC Soccer Tournament.
Scouting Sioux Falls: The Cougars (3-2-1, 2-0-1 NSIC) played two matches last weekend. Sioux Falls tied MSU Moorhead 1-1 on Saturday and defeated Northern State 1-0 on Sunday. Both matches were played in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Sophomore Lauren Lafavre leads the Cougars in goals (3) and points (7), and freshman Morgan Lovato is second on the team in goals (2) and points (5).
Facing Sioux Falls: In their only meeting last season, the Mavericks shut out the Cougars 4-0 in Sioux Falls, S.D. Sophomore midfielder Alesha Duccini scored twice, and senior midfielder Jenny Hoerter and junior forward Morgan Cottew each scored once.
Scouting Southwest Minnesota State: The Mustangs (0-5-0, 0-3-0 NSIC) have yet to win in 2017. Last weekend, Southwest Minnesota State lost a pair of home matches to Northern State and MSU Moorhead by scores of 2-1 and 3-1, respectively.
Seniors Emily Huddleston and Fabiana Peiro have each scored once to lead the Mustangs in goals and points (2).
Facing Southwest Minnesota State: In 2016, the Mavericksn defeated the Mustangs 4-0 at The Pitch. Minnesota State received goals from senior midfielder Jenny Hoerter and junior forward Morgan Cottew.
Looking Ahead: The Mavericks continue NSIC play with home matches against Concordia-St. Paul at 4:00 p.m., on Sept. 27 and Minnesota Crookston at 1:00 p.m., on Sept. 29.
