GRAND FORKS, N.D. --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team ended its regular season schedule on a five-dual winning streak Sunday morning as it swept Minnesota Crookston 9-0.
With the win, MSU owns a 9-10 overall record, including a 7-4 NSIC record. With the loss, UMC falls to 0-15, including a 0-11 conference record.
The Mavericks began the day winning all three of the doubles matches. The duo of senior
Melissa Mashburn and freshman
Erin Streeter won the No. 1 doubles match 8-1, while the pair of senior
Kelly Lechowski and freshman
Monika Ryan won the No. 2 doubles 8-0. Senior
Abby Schmidt and freshman
Kelly Spielman added an 8-0 victory of their own in the No. 3 doubles match as well.
Minnesota finished the dual winning all six of the singles matches in straight sets to lock down the 9-0 win.
Streeter bested Whitney Erickson 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles match, while Lechowski topped Reanne Erickson 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles match. Mashburn (No. 3), Ryan (No. 4), Spielman (No. 5) and Schmidt (No. 6) each recorded 6-0, 6-0 wins during their singles matches as well.
With their 7-4 NSIC record, the Mavericks claimed the fifth seed in the NSIC Tournament and will take on fourth-seeded MSU Moorhead in the first round of the NSIC Tournament on Saturday, April 22. The dual is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m., and will take place in Minnetonka, Minn.
