Emporia, Kan.--- The Minnesota State men's track and field team took first place with a final score of 139 points in their first outdoor meet of the season, the ESU Spring Invitational hosted by Emporia State University.
The day began when the team of
Reid Diamond,
Tanner Ogren,
Vance Barnes, and
Paul Selman finished second in the 4x100 relay with a tie of 41.20. In the 110-meter hurdles
Ben Ojika finished third with a time of 14.98 and
Eneji Obami finished eighth with a time of 15.64.
Morris Dennis (48.09) and
John Schuster (48.33) earned the top two spots in the 400-meter dash. In the same event,
Isaiah Pitchford (49.30),
Jovonte' Suber (49.39), and
Dalton Bialke (49.94) finished fifth through seventh.
In the 100-meter dash
Vance Barnes (10.81) finished fifth,
Diamond (10.84) finished sixth, and
Justin Taormina (10.93) finished tenth. In the 400-meter hurdles
Cam Crosser (55.52) finished fourth and
Leroy Kwateh (56.75) finished eighth. In the 200-meter dash
Parker Gloudemans (21.90) and
Ogren (22.05) finished sixth and seventh.
In the 4x400-meter relay the team of
Pitchford,
Schuster,
Ogren, and
Dennis finished first with a time of 3:13.50 and the team of
Bialke,
Suber,
Gloudemans, and
Crosser finished fourth with a time of 3:16.31.
Jeff DeCock earned first place in the high jump with a leap of 6'6.75",
Ojika finished third with a jump of 6'4.75", and
Logan Bristol finished tied for tenth with a jump of 6'0.75".
Mitchell Valli started the outdoor season with a bang winning the pole vault with a clear of 16'6.75". Also in the pole vault
Zach Olsem (14'3.25") and
John Cihlar finished tied for seventh and
Kyle Johnson (14'3.25") finished ninth based on misses.
In the long jump,
Alex Campbell finished fifth with a leap of 22'5.75". In the discus throw
Erik Nelson (155'4") finished third and
Sam Udermann (142'8") finished eighth.
Bryan Caffin finished seventh in the shot put with a top throw of 50'6.75".
Udermann (167'6") also finished seventh in the hammer throw and
Caffin (151'9") finished tenth.
London Thurman earned first place in the triple jump with a leap of 48'2.50" as
Campbell (46'9.50") and
Elijah Calderon-Pitchford (46'5.25") finished third and sixth respectively.
\Minnesota State will continue next Friday and Saturday with the Ashley Nalley Heptathlon/ Herschel Niel Decathlon in Maryville, Mo.
