Mankato, Minn.--- The Minnesota State women's track and field won their second consecutive NSIC Indoor Championship Saturday at Meyers Field House with a total team score of 171 points. The second place finisher, University of Mary, finished the championship with a total of 103 points.
Sophomore Afure Adah set the pace early earning the NSIC Indoor Championship, her second indoor and third overall, in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.59, the best time in division II this season. Ariel Thomas (7.64) finished third, Brieanna Puckett (7.66) finished fourth, Autumn Santos (7.87) finished sixth and Gabi Gaines (8.58) finished seventh to earn the Mavericks a total of 26 points in the event. In the 60-meter hurdles Altoniece Williams (8.44) finished second and Carolyn Hackel (8.82) finished seventh earning ten points. Adah continued to blow away the competition finishing first and earning her second Championship of the day in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.53, also the top mark in division II this season. Karlona Gregory (24.77) also finished third to give Minnesota State 16 total points for the event.
In the 400-meter dash Amelia Kjos (58.34) finished fifth and Kimmy Wreh (58.48) finished sixth to earn a total of seven points. Taylor Glover finished second in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:35.83, Bobbi Patrick (1:37.66) finished fourth, and Jessica
Boespflug (1:39.93) finished seventh to earn a total of 15 team points.
Haley Kruger earned her second NSIC Indoor Championship, third NSIC Championship overall, when she finished first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:12.27. Megan Allen (2:12.69) finished second and Maddi Sjelin (2:17.58) finished sixth to give the Mavericks a total of 21 points in the event. In the 1000-meter run Megan Serratore finished seventh with a time of 3:04.52 earning two points. Erin Baker finished third in the one mile run with a time of 5:01.86 earning six team points. Baker also finished second in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:00.35 along with Lily Paul who finished seventh with a time of 10:31.08 to earn ten points. In the 5000-meter run Baker finished sixth to earn three points.
In the field, Ariel Thomas finished second in the triple jump with a best distance of 39'4" to earn eight points. To wrap up the Championships Minnesota State finished fourth in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:54.26 which earned an additional five points.
Those who have qualified for nationals will travel to Birmingham Alabama for the NCAA National Championships March 10
th and 11
th.
