Mankato, Minn.--- The Minnesota State men's track and field team hosted the first day of the NSIC Indoor Championship Friday at Meyers Field House.
With a total of six events scored in the championship the Mavericks currently lead all schools with a total of 54.50 points. Currently in second place are the Sioux Falls Cougars with 38 points.
In the 60-meter dash
Vance Barnes (7.01),
Justin Taormina (6.98), and
Tanner Ogren (7.02) all qualified for finals.
Anyah Nutter (8.27) and
Logan Bristol (8.37) both qualified for finals in the 60-meter hurdles. In the 200-meter dash five Mavericks qualified for finals,
Reid Diamond (22.16), Ogren (22.19),
Jack Curtis (22.43),
Parker Gloudemans (22.46), and
Jake Gajewski (22.60).
John Schuster (48.44),
Dalton Bialke (49.58), and
Isaiah Pitchford (49.64) all qualified for finals in the 400-meter dash. In the 1000-meter run
Austin Yardley qualified for finals with a time of 2:34.72.
To wrap up the day one action on the track the distance medley team finished second with a time of 10:24.94 which earned a total of eight team points. The finals of all running events from day one will be run tomorrow starting at 1 p.m.
In the field events Minnesota State was able to score points early and often.
Jeff DeCock won the high jump with a final jump of 6'11.75" earning ten points and
Michael Sandle finished second with a jump of 6-10.75 which earned eight points.
Alex Campbell (6'9.5") finished tied for fifth earning 3.5 points and Nutter (6'8") finished eighth which earned one point. In the long jump Sandle (24'3.50") finished second earning eight points and Campbell (23'5.25") finished fifth earning four points.
Sam Udermann earned fourth place in the weight throw with a distance of 56'3.75" earning five points.
Day two begins Saturday Morning with the field events starting at 11 a.m.
