Mankato, Minn.--- The Minnesota State men's track and field team hosted the Birdman Open Friday evening at Meyers Field House.
The meet was highlighted by the 4x400m relay team of
John Schuster, Isaiah Pitchford,
Tanner Ogren, and
Morris Dennis, who broke the school record time of 3:16.28 set in 2006 by the team of Lehman, Bowser, Lawrence, and Piper, by posting a time of 3:15.87. With the national time conversion factored in, the time was reduced to 3:12.80 which is the fifth highest time posted in Division II this season as well as being a provisional qualifying mark.
In the 60-meter dash
Vance Barnes (6.86) took first place and tied for the 32
nd best time in division II this season.
Cole Barcroft (7.06) and
Artavius Nixon (7.17) finished second and third as well.
Myles Hunter finished first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.99 which is a provisional qualifying time and is the ninth best mark posted in Division II this season.
Anyah Nutter (8.32) finished second in the event also. In the 200-meter dash Barnes finished first with a time of 22.94 and
Derek Finsterwalder (51.61) finished first in the 400-meter dash.
In the 600-meter run
Jovonte' Suber (1:24.26) finished first and
Leroy Kwateh (1.26.78) finished second.
Sam Udermann earned first place in the weight throw with a distance of 57'2" and
Bryan Caffin took first place in the shot put with a throw of 52'.
Mitchell Valli finished first in the pole vault with a height of 16'6.75" and Nutter finished first in the high jump with a mark of 6'6.75". In the triple Jump
Anyah Nutter (48'8.35) finished first and
Alex Campbell (46'4.75") finished second. To finish the day
Keyshwan Davis took first place in the long jump with a leap of 22'3".
Minnesota State will host the NSIC Indoor Championship next Friday and Saturday at Meyers Field House.
