Duluth, Minn. --- Minnesota State women's hockey lost its Western Collegiate Hockey Association series finale at Minnesota Duluth 3-2 on Saturday at AMSOIL Arena. 
 
Minnesota State (2-11-1, (1-9-0-0 WCHA) jumped out to a 1-0 lead over Minnesota Duluth (7-8-0, 5-5-0-0 WCHA) at the 2:21 mark of the first period. Junior forward Jordan McLaughlin – the team leader in goals – scored her fifth of the season. Senior forward Lindsey Coleman and junior forward Corbin Boyd assisted on the play.
 
However, the Mavericks' lead did not last as the Bulldogs would score three consecutive goals to take a 3-1 lead. Katerina Mrazova scored at 17:55 of the first period, and Emma Yanko scored the final two Bulldog goals at 1:48 and 15:29 of the second period.   
 
With junior goaltender Katie Bidulka (1-8-0) pulled for an extra attacker late in the third period, the Mavericks pulled within one goal of the Bulldogs when sophomore forward Sofia Poinar scored her first goal of the season at the 19:20 mark. Freshman forward Brittyn Fleming and junior defenseman Megan Hinze assisted on the play. However, the Mavericks were unable to score an equalizer and the game ended with the score 3-2.
 
Minnesota State, which outshot Minnesota Duluth 28-27 in the game, had 22 shots on goal in the final two periods, but the Bulldogs' Jessica Convery (7-6-0) made 26 saves on the day. Bidulka made 24 saves in net for the Mavericks.
 
Both teams were 0-of-1 on the power play.
 
Minnesota State returns to the ice to face Boston University and Northeastern on Friday at 12:00 p.m. CST and Saturday at 3:00 p.m. CST, respectively, as part of the D1 in DC Tournament.
