Mankato, Minn. --- Minnesota State women's hockey dropped a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series-opening game with St. Cloud State 4-2 on Friday afternoon at Verizon Center.
 
Minnesota State (1-5-1, 0-3-0-0 WCHA) held a 11-10 edge in shots in the first period, but St. Cloud State (2-5-0, 1-2-0-0 WCHA) scored the only goal to take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Dana Rasmussen scored for the Huskies at 14:48 of the period.
 
In the second period, the Mavericks scored the first two goals of the period to take a 2-1 lead, before the Huskies scored the final goal of the period to tie the game at 2-2 after 40:00 played. Junior forward Corbin Boyd scored her first goal of the season at 2:19. Senior forward Hannah Davidson and sophomore defenseman McKenzie Sederberg assisted on the play. Minnesota State scored its second goal at 16:55 of the period. Senior forward Lindsey Coleman scored her first of the season – assisted by junior forward Jordan McLaughlin and freshman defenseman Jessica Kondas. Kondas tallied her first collegiate point. The Huskies goal was scored by Laura Kluge on the power play at 18:58.
 
St. Cloud State scored the only two goals of the third period to send Minnesota State to a 4-2 defeat. Julia Tylke scored the game-winning goal at 9:15 of the period and Janna Haeg capped off the scoring at 17:41.
 
Junior Katie Bidulka (1-4-0) made 20 saves in net for the Mavericks and Janine Alder stopped 25 shots for the Huskies.     
 
Minnesota State finished 0-of-2 on the power play and St. Cloud State was 1-of-1.
 
The Mavericks held a 27-24 edge in shots on goal.
 
Minnesota State and St. Cloud State return to Verizon Center at 2:07 p.m., on Saturday for their series finale.
