MANKATO, Minn--- The Minnesota State men's track and field team hosted the Minnesota State University Alumni open Saturday at Myers Field House in Mankato.
The day began with a strong opening race in the 4x800-meter relay as the Mavericks team of
Austin Pasch,
Isaiah Rabata,
Derek Finsterwalder, and
Austin Yardley earned first place with a time of 8:06.56. The 1-mile run resulted in
Caleb Burke finishing third with a time of 4:30.91. In the 60-meter hurdle
Anyah Nutter finished in second place with a final time of 8.38 and
Logan Bristol finished sixth with a time of 8.68.
Reid Diamond earned fourth place in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.049.
Justin Taormina (7.09) and
Artavius Nixon (7.13) placed sixth and eighth in the 60-meter dash.
The Mavericks would continue to perform well in the 400-meter dash as
John Schuster earned second place with a time of 49.11 and
Tanner Ogren (50.95),
Dalton Bialke (51.11),
Parker Gloudemans (51.14), and
Isaiah Pitchford (51.15) finished fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth respectively. In the 200-meter dash Minnesota State would once again prove their skill and depth as the earned the top five finishes in the event. Diamond (22.26),
Jake Gajewski (22.59), Ogren (22.65),
Ryan Immeker (22.90), and Gloudemans (22.97) were the top five finishers and Nixon (23.12) rounded out the top ten with a seventh place finish.
In the field events
Bryan Caffin took third place in the weight throw with a distance of 16.86m. Caffin also finished second in shot put with a best throw that went 15.41m.
Michael Sandle and
Jeff DeCock finished second and third in the high jump with a height of 2.11m apiece. In the long jump,
Jack Curtis finished sixth with a best distance of 6.18m. Sandle continued his strong day earning first place in the triple jump with a best distance of 16.16m and
Elijah Calderon-Pitchford (14.40),
London Thurman(14.30), and
Dominique Revis (13.63) finished second, third, and fourth respectively. In the pole vault
Mitchell Valli earned second place with a jump of 4.90m.
Minnesota State will be performing next Saturday at the Minnesota Open, which will be hosted in Minneapolis, Minn.
