Mankato, Minn.  --- Minnesota State and Lake Superior State battled through 60 minutes of regulation and a five-minute overtime period before the Mavericks got a goal from Parker Tuomie in a second three-on-three overtime session in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association contest played in Mankato Friday night.

The game goes into the books as a 2-2 tie and Minnesota State gets an extra point in WCHA action as a result of Tuomie's tally.
Centerman Mitch Hults took a shot from 40 feet out that bounced off a Maverick into the net at 4:27 of the opening period and for the second straight game, Lake Superior State got on the board first.

At 6:06 of the third period, Gage Torrel took a cross ice pass from Luke Morgan and ripped a one-timer past Cole Huggins to make it a 2-0 LSSU lead.  Shortly their after, Minnesota State started clawing its way back when freshman defenseman Ian Scheid rifled a shot from the top of the right circle past Gordon Defiel to make it a one-goal game. The goal by Scheid, one of the top-scoring freshmen blueliners in the country, is his seventh of the year.

Neither team was able to score during the first overtime session, but Tuomie found the back of the net at 3:52 of the second extra session to end the game.

Minnesota State, which was zero-for-three on the power play, put 37 shots on goal in the contest. The Lakers were also zero-for-three in their power play chances.

Maverick netminder Cole Huggins, who started for second consecutive game, stopped 30 shots and now stands 9-4-0 on the year.
Scheid and Brickley both finished with a goal and an assist in the contest.

The Mavericks are 15-9-4 on the season with tonight's win and stand 10-3-2 in WCHA contests. Lake Superior State now stands 11-13-4 overall, 8-10-3-2 WCHA with tonight's result.

The Mavericks continue WCHA action next weekend with a road series at Alaska Anchorage.
