Matadi Finishes 30th in 200m at 2016 Olympics

    Rio de Janeiro, Brazil ---  Former Minnesota State sprinter Emmanuel Matadi competed in the 200-meters this morning at the 2016 Olympic Games taking place in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

Matadi, who won 100m and 200m NCAA Division II outdoor track and field national championships while competing for Minnesota State in 2015, placed fifth in his 200m first round heat in Rio with a time of 20.49.  His time places him 30th overall in a competiton that featured two-time 200m defending Olympic champion Usain Bolt. Matadi, who competed as a member of the Liberia national team in Rio and is a St. Paul (Minn.) Johnson High School graduate, also competed in the 100m last week where his time of 10.31 ranked 43rd overall.

Matadi is the first former student-athlete from Minnesota State to compete in the summer Olympic Games.
