MOORHEAD, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team finished its weekend on a high note Sunday morning as it overcame an early 2-1 deficit to defeat the University of Mary 5-4.
With the win, the Mavericks improve to 5-4 on the season, including a 4-3 NSIC record. With the loss, the Marauders fall to 2-5 overall and in conference action.
The Mavericks began the dual with just one win in the doubles matches. Junior
Melissa Mashburn and freshman
Erin Streeter turned in an 8-4 victory over the team of Sarah Janes and Meredith Holt in the No. 1 doubles match.
Trailing 2-1 heading into the singles matches, MSU was able to rally as it won four of the six singles matches to take the 5-4 win.
Mashburn bested Janes in the No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-4, while Streeter turned in a 6-2, 7-5 win over Catherine Gibbens in the second singles match. Sophomore
Killian Doran defeated Holt 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 3 singles match, before junior
Lisa Dobbelaere secured the dual for the Mavericks in the No. 4 singles match as she defeated Anastasia Bruss 6-4, 6-2.
The Mavericks will travel to Puerto Rico for their annual spring break trip beginning on Sunday, March 6, as they take on Meredith College.
