Lindell's First Place Title Guides Mavericks in Day One Action

Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's track and field team kicked off the NSIC Conference Championships Thursday afternoon following solid performances all around.

The Mavericks started the day off strong by taking the top-two spots in the high jump. Leading the charge was Kayla Lindell (Cold Spring, Minn.) taking home first place with a leap of 5'06''. She won a jump off over teammate Brianna Ziolkowski who placed second (5'06''). In the women weight throw, Morgan Stampley (St. Paul, Minn.) placed ninth with a toss of 52'09.25''.

The distance medley relay team also garnered points as Megan Allen (Grand Rapids, Minn.), Kimmy Wreh (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), Haley Kruger (Brandon, S.D.) and Megan Serratore (Bemidji, Minn.) placed third with a final time of 12:27.54.

In addition to the final results, numerous individuals qualified for the final rounds of their respective events, which will be ran tomorrow afternoon.
Altoniece Williams (Miami. Fla.) and Brooke Foreman (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) both qualified for finals in the 60-meter hurdles behind Williams's new school record time of 8.48. The 60-meter dash saw similar success with three Mavericks placing in the top eight and qualifying for finals. Placing second was Afure Adah (Moorhead, Minn.) (7.70), placing third was Gabi Gaines (Waukee, Iowa) (7.71), and in eighth was Karlona Gregory (Minneapolis, Minn.) (7.79).

The 200-meter dash saw more success for the Mavs as four athletes qualified for the finals tomorrow. Leading the way was Adah with a time of 24.82, which is the 27th fastest time in division II. Also advancing was Williams (25.17), Gregory (25.39), and Mackenzie Beals (Marshalltown, Iowa) (25.47).

A pair of Mavericks met the times required in the 600-meters as both Kruger and Bobbi Patrick (Middleton, Wis.) finished in the top-eight with Kruger guiding the way with the top time of 1:35.59. The 800-meter run also had two MSU athletes advance to the finals in Allen (2:15.88) and Maddi Sjelin(St. Michael, Minn.) (2:18.30).

Through day one, the Mavericks sit in fifth-place as a team with 24 points. Augustana leads the way in team performance with 42.50 total points.

The Conference Championships wrap up tomorrow afternoon in Myers Field House. Field events are set to kick off at 10 a.m. with running events following at 1 p.m.
