BROOKINGS, S.D. --- The Minnesota State women's track and field team returned to action at day one of the SDSU Indoor Invitational.
Freshman
Afure Adah (Moorhead, Minn.) led the Maverick effort in the 200-meters finishing in a time of 24.93, which placed seventh in a very fast field. Other Mavericks placing in the top-15 were junior
Altoniece Williams (Miami, Fla.) coming in tenth (25.16) and senior
Mackenzie Beals (Marshaltown, Iowa) placing 14
th in 25.44.
Two records fell in the 600-meter run. Not only did junior
Haley Kruger (Brandon, S.D.) win the race she also set the new school record with a time of 1:34.18. On top of that she also set the new meet record at the SDSU Invitational. Freshman
Bobbi Patrick (Middleton, Wis.) took 13
th in a time of 1:39.48.
Sophomore
Megan Allen (Grand Rapids, Minn.) ran her way to a fourth place finish in the 600-meter run (2:58.10). Senior
Samantha Soupir (Omaha, Neb.) would follow suit currently sitting in fourth with more heats to go tomorrow.
The high jump had two Mavericks finish in the top ten. Senior
Kayla Lindell (Cold Spring, Minn.) placed seventh (5'05'') and junior
Brianna Ziolkowski (Hatley, Wis.) tied for ninth (5'03'').
The Mavericks dominated the weight throw by placing four athletes in the top ten. Leading the field after the first day was senior
Morgan Stampley (St. Paul, Minn.) with a toss of 53'01.50''. Taking the third and fourth spots were junior
Emma Edelen (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and sophomore
Sarah Knutson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa), respectively. Rounding out the top ten in seventh was freshman
Sarah Kalkhoff (Newton, Iowa).
Knutson also finished fifth in the shot put with a toss of 38'05''.50.
