Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Mavericks Lose to Golden Gophers 8-1 on Sunday

MINNEAPOLIS --- Minnesota State women's hockey played No. 2 Minnesota to a scoreless tie until the first intermission, but the Mavericks were outscored 8-1 in the final two periods and lost for their second straight game against the Golden Gophers.

The Mavericks (2-9-1, 0-9-1-0 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) were led by junior forward Amanda Conway who scored her first goal of the season -- the eighth of her career -- at 6:15 in the second period. Sophomore forward Jordan McLaughlin garnered her second assist of the season on the play. The goal, which gives Conway 15 career points tied the game at 1-1, but the Golden Gophers (11-1-0, 11-1-0-0 WCHA) scored the next seven goals to pull away.

The Golden Gophers received two goals each from three student-athletes: Kelly Pannek, Dani Cameranesi and Nicole Schammel. Sarah Potomak and Taylor Williamson added one goal each. Pannek's first goal of the night -- coming shorthanded at 10:01 -- was the difference in the game.

Sophomore goaltender Katie Bidulka (1-3-0) made 20 saves over the first two periods for the Mavericks. Freshman netminder Chloe Crosby saw her first game action as a Maverick, as she played the entire third period -- making 12 saves.

Eight different Golden Gophers tallied at least one assist: Cameranesi, Pannek, Potomak, Lindsay Agnew, Alex Woken, Patti Marshall, Kate Schipper, and Sydney Baldwin.

Sidney Peters (11-1-0) made eight saves as she played the first 46:18 in net for the Golden Gophers. Serena D'Angelo stopped five shots in relief of Peters.

The Mavericks finished 0-of-3 on the power play and surrendered a shorthanded goal, while the Golden Gophers converted on 1-of-3 power play opportunities.

The Mavericks, who are entering a bye week, next welcome Ohio State to Verizon Wireless Center for the start of a two-game series on Nov. 18.
