Mankato, Minn. --- Minnesota State outshot visiting Ohio State by a 34-26 margin, but fell to the Buckeyes 2-1 in a women's Western Collegiate Hockey Association game played in Mankato on Friday afternoon.

Ohio State got the game's first two goals, including one late in the opening period.

Following a faceoff, junior defenseman Dani Sadek dished the puck to Julianna Iafallo deep in Maverick territory and Iafallo fired a shot above the shoulder of Minnesota State sophomore goaltender Katie Bidulka for the first goal of the game.

Early in the second period, Buckeye winger Rebecca Freiburger intercepted a Maverick pass near the blue line and scored on a breakaway to give Ohio Stat a 2-0 lead at 6:36. Minnesota State closed the gap at the 14:04 mark after junior winger Lindsey Coleman took a shot from the left side circle and sophomore center Jordan McLaughlin pounced on the rebound in scoring her second goal of the season.

The two teams battled through a scoreless third frame with the Buckeyes holding on for the 2-1 victory. Bidulka made 24 saves on the day in seeing her record on the year fall to 1-4-0. Kassidy Sauve made 34 stops for the Buckeyes in improving her record to 7-7-1 on the year.
