Mavericks Defeat Ohio State 2-1; Harrington Records First WCHA Coaching Win

Coleman Scores First Career Game-Winning Goal

Mankato, Minn. --- Junior Forward Lindsey Coleman scored her first career game-winning goal and sophomore goaltender Katie Bidulka made 20 saves as Minnesota State women's hockey held off Ohio State for its first Western Collegiate Hockey Association win under head coach John Harrington on Saturday in Verizon Wireless Center.

The Mavericks (3-10-1, 2-10-1-0 WCHA), scored first when sophomore forward Emily Antony (3-3--6) beat Ohio State's (7-8-1, 3-8-1-0 WCHA) goaltender Kassidy Sauve (7-8-1) high over the shoulder -- just underneath the cross bar -- at 7:46 in the first period. Antony's goal -- her team-leading third of 2016-17 -- was assisted by Coleman (2-2--4).

Minnesota State doubled its lead to 2-0 at 10:24 in the second period when Coleman scored -- the eventual game-winning goal -- on a second shot attempt. Coleman's first shot was saved, but she grabbed her own rebound and fired the puck past Sauve for the score. Antony and sophomore defenseman Lena Duesterhoeft (0-2--2) assisted on the play.

Ohio State fought back and got on the scoreboard when Crystal Sorem (2-0--1) scored the lone Buckeye goal of the game at 19:42 in the second. Bidulka (2-4-0) stopped the initial shot attempt, but Sorem scored off of the rebound. The goal was assisted by Maddy Field (5-6--10) and Dani Sadek (1-5--6).

The Buckeyes outshot the Mavericks 7-5 in the third period, but Bidulka was equal to the task as Minnesota State held on for the 2-1 conference win.

Minnesota State was led in plus/minus by Antony, Coleman and sophomore forward Jordan McLaughlin, who were all +2 in the game.

The win is the Mavericks first WCHA victory since a 5-1 win over St. Cloud State on Feb. 2, 2015 at All Seasons Arena in Mankato, Minn.

Minnesota State returns to action for the start of a two-game nonconference series against Lindenwood on Friday afternoon at Verizon Wireless Center.
