Mankato, Minn. --- Senior Savannah Quandt scored her first-career game-winning goal to complete a 2-1 come from behind victory for Minnesota State women's hockey over RIT on Saturday afternoon at Verizon Wireless Center. 

Saturday's win gives the Mavericks a two-game nonconference sweep over the visiting Tigers, marking the first time Minnesota State has started a season 2-0 since 2011-12, when the Mavericks started 3-0-0. Minnesota State has won consecutive games for the first time since 2014-15 -- the Mavericks defeated Lindenwood on Jan. 7 and Jan. 9 of 2015.

Minnesota State outshot RIT (0-2-0) 7-4 in the first period -- 31-13 in the game -- but the Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period when Caitlin Wallace scored her second goal in as many days against the Mavericks. Wallace's goal came at 2:51. Taylor Baker recorded an assist on the play. 

The Mavericks upped their offensive intensity -- outshooting RIT 12-5 in the second period. The offense broke through when freshman Sofia Poinar scored her first career goal at 1:56. Junior Amanda Conway and sophomore Jordan McLaughlin collected their first assists of the season on the play.    

With the game tied entering the third, Minnesota State kept putting the puck on net. The Mavericks had 12 shots on target compared to four for the Tigers. Quandt garnered the game-winning goal -- the first of her career -- at 03:58, capitalizing on a rebound opportunity. Junior Hannah Davidson and sophomore Lena Duesterhoeft garnered assists on the play -- their first helpers of the season.

With 1:28 remaining, RIT pulled Terra Lanteigne (0-2-0), who made 29 saves in the game, but Minnesota State held off RIT to complete the 2-1 comeback victory.     

Sophomore Katie Bidulka (1-0-0) made 13 saves in goal to earn the win.

Minnesota State had two power play opportunities and RIT had one. Neither team scored with a man advantage. 

Minnesota State begins WCHA play next weekend with a two game-series at Minnesota Duluth on Friday and Saturday.
